19 of the Best Lunch Deals in Manchester

There is truly nothing better to get you through a horrible day at work than a great lunch.

So sack off your soggy sandwich, throw that sweaty Scotch Egg in the bin and get yourself out and about to one of these beauties.

£6 Lunch @ Cane and Grain
If you want to get messy and spend the rest of the day with BBQ sauce all over your silk tie – Cane and Grain is the place. These brilliant Rum and Rib maestro’s serve up probably the best Lunch Menu in the city, with a choice of brilliant dishes for only £6. There’s loads to pick from including their Bacon Cheese Burger, the Mexican Bean Burger, a Pulled Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, 1/2 Rack of Baby Back Ribs or Two St. Louis Ribs. All of which come served with either fries or a side salad. If you’re watching your figure they also have the Salad of the Day as an option, but with so much tender meat flying around – why would you bother.

£5 Lunch @ Yard and Coop
As the name suggests – this place in the NQ specialises in that perfect of all edible birds – the chicken. The perfect size for a family of four, with meat that paradoxically tastes both like everything else and nothing at all, the chicken clearly is the king of all birds – and Yard and Coop are not shy when it comes to throwing them in a deep fat fryer covered in flour and eggs. Their lunch deal features a choice of 4 lovely dishes for only a fiver each. There’s a Bourbon BBQ Pulled Chicken Burger, some ‘Saucy Bird’ Fries, Chicken Drumsticks and chips or a veggie burger.

Available Monday – Friday, 12pm – 5pm

Yard and Coop, 37 Edge St, Manchester M4 1HW

Thali Lunch @ Scene Indian Street Kitchen
One of my favourite memories of India was eating a Thali – basically a big metal dish which is then piled high with different curries, sides and condiments – which a bloke would just periodically top up if he could see you reaching the end. Although it’s unlikely that the staff in Scene will be that generous – their Lunch Thali menu is still excellent value and enough to keep you going through that dreaded 3pm work-dip. You have a choice of Lamb (£9.95), Chicken (£8.95) or Veg (£7.95) which are then served with a salad, poppadum and chutney, onion bhaji, pilau rice and a veggie side dish.

Available Monday – Friday, 12pm – 3pm

Meal Deal @ Chango’s Burrito Bar
If you’ve ever walked down Oxford Road at lunch time you will know that Chango’s Burrito Bar is very popular with the city’s workers – so popular in fact that they will happily queue down the street come rain or shine to get their dirty mitts on one of their brilliant burritos. You can choose from a variety of meats, veggies and additional toppings to go into your tortilla and you will be unlikely to have to break out more than 6 pound coins. In fact, for £5.95 you can choose any medium chicken or vegetarian burrito, soda and nachos and have a lovely afternoon of fullness and smiles.

Available Monday – Friday, before 2pm

Chango’s Burrito Bar, St James Bldg, 91-93 Oxford St, Manchester M1 6ET

£6 Lunch @ Black Dog Ballroom
Available in both their NQ and NWS branches – the Black Dog lunch menu gives you the opportunity to chomp down on one of their lovely main meals for only £6. You have a choice of a Cheeseburger (with fries), a Pepperoni (or Margherita) pizza, a Vendor Dog (with fries), the House Club Sandwich (with fries) or if you’re worried about your weight then a Super Food Salad. You might even have a bit of time after your food and before you have to clock back in to drink a few cocktails to make the afternoon go faster, or even smash Kevin from accounts at pool because you hate his stupid little face.

Available Tuesday – Friday from 12pm – 4pm.

Bagel + Side + Drink for £10 @ The Bagel Shop
Last week saw a very hungover Ben Brown receive quite possibly the best present he’s ever had. Much better than that NEW my dad got me in 1989 and even better than the Mega Drive in 1995. This was the gift of a Salt Beef Bagel from The Bagel Shop on Oldham Street and instantly my groggy head and glum demeanour was transformed. These things are brilliant and you can get involved every weekday lunch time with a range of sandwiches on offer with a side and a drink for only £10. There’s enough to choose from for anyone including veggie and vegan options, as well as their phenomenal ‘Frickles’ (or fried pickles to you).

Available Monday – Friday until 4pm

Express Lunch @ La Bandera
The Spanish are famed for their Siestas – a chance for them to get out of the sun and have a nap in the afternoon. It’s one of the best ideas ever – not only do you get to have a nap but it also means that everything in Spain is therefore open for longer at night and buying a Twix at 11.30pm is an easy task. Lunch is also a biggie too and so La Bandera offer up a great Express Lunch Deal – a choice of 3 tapas and a soft drink for only £11.95.

Available Monday – Friday, 12pm – 4pm

La Bandera, 2 Ridgefield, Manchester M2 6EQ

Viet Shack
The Arndale Food Market is one of the best places to get a cheap lunch in the city, and one of the best places there is the legendary Viet Shack. Offering a cheap but amazing menu of authentic Vietnamese dishes – there’s a reason why it’s always bloody busy during the day. You can get some massive BBQ meats with rice for less than £6, and if you choose their Sticky Honey Pork Chops then you will also probably have a big smile on your face when you get back to the office and see someone eating a skanky Egg and Cress from Tesco.

Rice & 3 @ This and That
Hungry city centre workers have been heading to This and That for absolutely ages to grab a massive dish of Rice & Three for outrageously good prices, and it doesn’t look like this is going to change very soon. If you’re feeling a little skint, or you don’t eat meat – you can have 3 Veg curries and rice for only £4.50. Opt for 3 Meat ones and it will still only set you back a very reasonable £6.50. Although you could probably buy around 36 pasties and cakes for that in Greggs, they will be nowhere near as nice – I promise.

Traditional Tiffin Lunch @ Zouk
To some people, myself included, tiffin is a chocolate cake thing with biscuits and raisins and whatever you can find in the cupboard that you used to make in Food Tech classes at school. To Zouk (and pretty much 97% of the rest of the human population), Tiffin is a traditional Indian light meal. Apparently thousands of workers throughout the country take delivery of these delicious freshly cooked meals, and you can be the same as them with Zouk’s Traditional Tiffin lunch offer. They have a different choice of dishes each day, where you can expect a selection of 2 or 3 meat or veggie options, served with rice, freshly baked naan and a side dish for only £7.95 per person.

£5 Lunch Menu @ Crazy Pedro’s
If you work anywhere near the Crazy Pedro’s on Bridge Street or in the NQ then lucky you – you can take advantage of their effing brilliant lunch deal and still get back to work without your annoying supervisor giving you an earful. For £5 you can choose from 2 massive slices of pizza, and a soft drink. Each day they have a selection of 4 or 5 of their pizzas in slice form, including their typically mental and usually delicious monthly special. Give them another £1 on top of the 5 sheets and you can replace your boring soft drink with a beer – makes perfect sense.

Lower Price Menu @ Common
Head on down to Common in the Northern Quarter between 12pm and 5pm and they will sort you out with many of the dishes on their menu at a much more palatable ‘lower price’ option. Check their menu online and you’ll see the many lower prices available at Lunch Time including their brilliant BLAT! Sandwich, their kebabs or their brilliant XL Fries, which come in at only £5 a pop. A lot of the stuff here is veggie or vegan so if you’re more of a plant-eater than meat-eater – you’ll be as happy as a bloke called Larry.

As the perfect foil to the savage surroundings of Piccadilly Gardens; walking into Bundobust will bring to your day an unbridled amount of joy – as well as a great selection of lovely Indian dishes. You’ll be hard-pressed to find much of a mention of their Lunch Deal online but it’s there and it will come into your life upon descending those stairs. They offer 2 dishes for £7.50, with a choice of Okra Fries, Onion, Broccoli & Kale Bhajis or Bundo Chaat, and team it with either a Massala Dosa (Mini rice crepe filled with potato and onion), Egg Bhurji (Indian scrambled egg cooked with peppers, chilli, cumin and coriander) or Tarka Dhal (Classic lentil curry. £1.20 Grey Plates @ Wasabi
If you’re hankering for a bit of sushi at lunch time, and want to feel like you’re on the streets of Tokyo surrounded by pissed up business men and dirty knicker vending machines – then head to any of the 3 Wasabi’s in Manchester and you can have as many grey plates off the belt as you like for only £1.20 each. That’s pretty good considering sushi is deceptively filling – I once managed to eat 6 plates once. When I got back to work I could hardly move though. THey also offer an option to have one Main Dish and 3 grey plates for only £9.95, which again, will keep you full until next week.

Available Monday – Friday, 12pm – 3pm

Toasties @ Northern Soul
A place that gets busier at lunch than the Jubilee line does at 8.25am, every single time I decide I want to treat myself to a massive wedge of cheese and bread I’m slightly dismayed by the queues. But since they opened up a new branch on Picadilly Approach I can now pop there at lunch time instead to appease my cheese cravings. They don’t have a lunch deal as such but when each toastie comes in at around a fiver anyway – you can’t go wrong. These beauts are massive too so you’ll be sorted until tea time.

Soup & Sandwich for £8 @ The Corner Boy
Available all week from the little deli in The Corner Boy, you can get your hands on a massive big butty and a pot of lovely hot soup for only £8. If you don’t decide to then spend the next 20 minutes dipping said sandwich into the aforementioned soup, then there is something seriously wrong with you. They usually have a great selection of sarnies and soups on offer which change every day depending on what they’ve got in their pantry or on how they’re feeling.

Available Monday – Friday

£5 Lunch @ Second City
For a mere £5 you can get yourself one of three rather impressive meals at Ancoats’ own sports bar Second City. Even if you don’t know your Jimmy White from your Jimmy Hill, think Mark Ramprakash is some kind of skin disease or would rather poke yourself in the eyes with a screwdriver than watch a game of football don’t worry – you can still get involved! There’s the choice of the SC Burger (with fries), the Boardwalk Frankfurter and their Candied Beetroot and Goats Cheese Salad.

Available Monday – Friday until 4pm

Second City, 37 Blossom St, Manchester M4 6AJ

£10 Main & a Side @ The Patron NQ
Sure, spending a tenner on your lunch could be seen as rather excessive, especially considering you probably spent close to £150 over the weekend on a few bottles of Prosecco down Spinningfields. But if you’re looking for a proper treat of a lunch, one that manages to not only be filling but also proper fit – The Patron is the place to go. The portions here are huge, so you’ll be fine with a main and a side and each dish on offer is excellent (I’ve had them all). What’s more this place is just perfect for sitting, eating, drinking and watching the NQ go by outside.

Available Monday – Friday, 12pm – 4pm

The Patron, Corner of Hilton Street and Oldham Street, Manchester M1 1JJ

Revolution de Cuba
Even though the bouncers refused to let you in on Friday night because you looked too drunk, Revolution de Cuba would like you to head back to their establishment, let bygones be bygones and purchase your lunch off them. If you feel so inclined, they offer a decent lunch deal until 3pm where you can choose either a Pulled Pork Sandwich, a Chicken Fajita Sandwich, a Halloumi Wrap or a Chicken Burrito Bowl for only £6. Whether this is enough for you to forgive those bouncers – I suppose that’s up to you.

Available Monday – Friday until 3pm
