Get out your house and step into some country fields with fresh air!
In light of what’s happening, we thought we’d create a nice handy place where you can get all the best weekend walks in and around Manchester for when you wanna escape the crowds and get some fresh countryside air in your lungs.
I had to put this one in because it was the time I rescued a dog for around 4 hours on New Year’s Day. Since that day the year has got progressively worse. In fact probably a lot worse. It’s a massive walk and you’re gonna come across dogs, what more can we ask for at this time than fresh air, quiet and doggos?
It’s a popular walk in the Peak District and a huge summit that you can either get fab views or climb yourself. It’s said to be one of the best ridge walks in the country, there’s rivers, fields and plenty of greenery to pick up your spirits.
Get views of the whole city (on a clear day), you can even see as far out as Snowdonia in Wales if you squint hard enough. So create a lovely little packed lunch and reward yourself with a cracking view of the city.
As far as we know this place is still open, so wander around fields of flowers and go on the hunt to spot some deer wandering the grounds. There’s also some of them seriously cute cows that are dead hairy and just look lovable.
You’re gonna need your proper boots for this, those walking pants that make you sound like you’re skiing and definitely plenty of protein bars. I’d opt for a flask of hot Vimto too if I were you. There are loads of different trails you can pick from including a 20km one which will sufficiently use a big chunk of your day and leave you tired enough to snooze for a good 24 hours after.
This little old reservoir tucked away in Bolton will give you plenty of walks and whenever I’ve seen pictures it pretty much always seems sunny. I dunno the science behind that. Full of trees you’ll be able to fill your lungs with the freshest air ever.
If you go to Winter Hill for one thing, go for the 8th tallest structure in the UK. It will really blow your mind. Nah but on a serious note, there’s loads of different walks depending on how long you wanna be out or and what kind of terrain you want. There’s plenty of amazing views too once you reach the peaks of Bolton, Wigan and the West Pennines Moors.
Below Kinder Scout
If Kinder Scout is pretty daunting for you, you can wander around the base of it at the reservoir. It’ll take you around 2.5 hours so perfect for a midday get out of the house and get some fresh air walk.
