Moving over from Lancashire in the 90s, Sian Astley spent a few years at University in Fallowfield before spreading her wings in the world of work. Starting off in hospitality, she’s moved through many different sectors; hospitality, property, Airbnb, Project Manager for a hit BBC2 show and now – host of one of Manchester’s most exciting and innovative supper clubs.

Taking place in her renovated Fallowfield family villa, the supper clubs give Sian the opportunity to “do something special with a house which has retained lots of original features, and space for us to share our knowledge of property and interiors.” So, they began by running ‘How To Renovate’ days via Airbnb Experiences – sharing what she’d learnt through years of renovating and working within the property industry.

This workshop then led onto one focusing on sustainable home and garden design using salvage and reclamation, which then led onto the idea and concept of hosting her very own supper clubs from her home.

“What little time I have is filled with eating and cooking, and after regularly attending other supper clubs and pop-ups for years, I was inspired and encouraged by other hosts to have a go myself!”

So Moregeous was created, an indoor and outdoor supper club in her home that invites chefs down to create their very own unique experiences. There’s chargrilling, outdoor BBQs, plus a unique cast iron ASADO CROSS for roasting a whole lamb over coals in an authentic South American style!

So far they’ve worked with Chef Claire Woodier who made her name by running late-night supper clubs in her cafe in Smithfield’s Market. They invited her to create a ‘Bonfire Night Feast‘ complete with wood coal-cooked Banana Leaf Fish and Game Stew.

They’ve also worked with Peter Naylor, a chemistry teacher who turned his hand to using science to create wonderful food masterpieces – all to be served up to 6 guests in his basement in Disdsbury.

Peter was invited to create a ‘Summer BBQ‘ with cooked meats, homemade sauces and cocktails – all within Sian’s impressive backyard.

Moregeous’ next event is this Saturday 25th July, a Spanish Spectacular Chef Jan Cron who was trained in the Michelin-starred Alcron in Prague. He’ll be preparing a true Spanish feast with a giant Paella Andaluz prepared in front of guests, as well as Sangria and authentic Spanish desserts to finish off.

The event is BYOB and guests are also invited for drinks around the fire pit and to pose questions to Jan and his fellow chef Antonio Paxos while they eat.

Asked what other supper clubs are in the pipeline this Summer, Sian mentions a Boozy Brunch Lunch – a Prosecco filled breakfast meets high tea extravaganza, and a ‘Manc Asado’ – where they’ll be roasting a whole lamb on the coals in her back garden!

“We offer a different type of experience to all the fabulous restaurants & pop ups locally and in the city centre. It’s intimate and friendly, but fun and every supper club night is different.”

Different they are, and I’d be hard-pressed to think of many people doing something similar in Manchester. Of course, there’s Eddie Shepherd in Whalley Range, and pop-ups from the likes of Mama Z and Pippy Eats are common – but to invite chefs into her own home is something that’s truly innovative and looks to be a must-visit event for ALL self-professed foodies.
