Many people might feel a bit apprehensive about visiting the cinema on your own or having a coffee on your own but you should give it a try. You might like it. Therefore, here’s our top five places to go and do things by yourself in Manchester.

Matt and Phred’s Jazz Club
No one likes jazz, except you. That’s because you’re awesome and have taken the time to soak up the delicious complex joys that is jazz. Matt and Phred put on some seriously awesome nights and jazz is one of those things that can easily be endured alone. There’s a fantastic food and drinks menu, with a great happy hour offer pretty much every night. So get yourself a table, perhaps somewhere at the back in some serious shadow and enjoy an evening of slowly nodding, tapping your foot and trying to look like you know what’s going on.

Bock Biere
The great thing about drinking alone is that you don’t have to answer to anyone or apologise to anyone the morning after, the guilt and shame are all yours. The fact that I believe it’s the first step to alcoholism can easily be overlooked however when you have a vast range of Belgian beers in front of you. Bock Biere house a wonderful selection of strong Belgian beers beauties, the perfect accompaniment for drinking solo, as you’ll be so pissed after a couple of bottles that you wont care anymore.

The Frog and Bucket Comedy Club
You can drink and cry alone at a comedy club, cry with laughter that is. On a Monday night they have Beat the Frog where people who’ve been told they’re funny get up on stage with their best jokes to try and make you laugh, if they don’t (it could even be you) someone holds up a card, three cards and they’re off. It’s a great night. I’d personally sit at the back though where it’s dark and you can’t singled out by the compere.

The John Rylands Library
Libraries were made to visit on your own, I mean you can’t exactly share a book can you. Unless it’s a colouring book and you both choose a side. Steal away some time and simply enjoy just being by yourself. What makes the John Rylands especially great to visit is the fact that it’s actually more like a museum, complete with exhibitions, a really old Bible and probably the best architecture in the city.

Vapiano
It doesn’t actually mean anything, I Googled it, but what it is, is the perfect place to get some great Italian food on your own. What really makes this place stand out is that when you order the food the chef has to cook it in front of you so you can either make awkward conversation or simply never take your gaze away from the chef watching and judging his every move. The portions are hearty and they use a neat little card system meaning you just swipe it on the way out so no awkward cash payments or anything like that.
