Redux Remix: An Exhibition by Pin

Pin is the graphic design alias of Paul Hemmingfield. Originally from Sheffield, Paul has worked with hometown music alumni such as Richard Hawley, Ross Orton (MIA & Toddla T producer), Kings Have Long Arms, Matt Helders and had his work included in an Arctic Monkey’s album sleeve.
Though it is his adopted home of Manchester where his design has made its mark. It was here that he made potato printing fashionable again (see ‘Electric Souls’ sleeves by The Unabombers).
For just over a decade, since first making the move across the Pennines with design agency Eg.G, which later became Co.Pop, and now on his own as Pin, Paul has created the visual identity for many of the city’s best music projects and events including Sankeys Soap, Grand Central Records, The Green Room, El Diablo’s Social Club, Electric Chair / Electric Elephant, The Warehouse Project, Paradise Factory, Tribal Gathering and Parklife Festival.
Connoisseurs of the city’s music scene will recognise some of the work in the exhibition as Paul has revisited the Pin archives and all of the prints were at sometime designed for nights, gigs or clubs. Included prints are pieces initially created for The Deaf Institute, Now Wave, Chibuku, Erol Alkan, Ape and Mad Ferret Festival. But will you be able to spot them?
The exhibition is entitled Redux Remix, as rather than this being a retrospective, these new prints are re-edits; based on the original designs but with all copy removed and striped back to the design and illustration, making them striking pieces of work in their own right.
