Simon Buckley is a Manchester-based artist who specialises in photography. Much of his career has involved taking pictures of people, but his recent endeavour is an exploration of Manchester, it’s buildings and its rapid development.
He focuses on documenting Manchester and its buildings as it embarks on a period of ambitious change- attempting to capture the city in the in-between stages of old and new. Buckley is interested in what decisions we make for our towns and cities, and how the actions of planners and architects impact upon us all.
His work is widely published across the globe and has had exhibitions in the UK, France, Germany, Hong Kong and China.
“From Trinity To The Crescent is the latest version of the Not Quite Light project. It looks at heritage and regeneration in the Chapel Street and River Irwell areas of Salford, often coming up against the border into Manchester.
Salford, often in Manchester’s shadow, is undergoing a revival at the moment, and its streets are changing rapidly. This work looks at the city as it undergoes this transformation, posing questions about its past and the years to come, talking to the future.
The preview for this exhibition is on Thursday 17th May and will run from then on for two months- so do not miss.
