The Asia Triennial showcases emerging and established artists from across Asia in response to the 2014 theme, ‘Conflict and Compassion’. The Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI) is hosting “Harmonious Society”, as part of the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Arts programme, and a key strand of this year’s Triennial.
“Harmonious Society” features over 30 major artists from Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong in partner venues across the city.

Try it. Perfect it. Print it. Join the 3D printing revolution at MOSI. From printed knickers and a synthetic heart, to 3D printed pills and skull scaffolds, visit our recently opened exhibition to discover how 3D printing is about to change your life. Featuring over 500 3D printed objects, this visually stunning installation celebrates and illustrates how 3D printing inspires creativity and ground-breaking design. It is also fitting that these state of the art objects created by one of the most innovative technologies of today are on display in the Museum’s historic 1830 Warehouse, the worlds’ first railway warehouse and thus the most innovative building of its day.

Inspired by the scientific investigation and approach of renowned scientist James Lovelock, this unique sound installation invites the audience into the mysterious world of animal communication to reveal connections between them through their sounds. From bats to insects, amphibians to whales – this atmospheric and largely sound based experience brings awareness to the minute but discernible connections between animal song and calls.

Whether a bike fanatic or a cycling novice, this intimate and engaging exhibition explores and explains Manchester’s rich cycling heritage. From bone-shaker bikes and Empire Games medals, to contemporary track bikes and hi-tech skin suits, Pedal Power is a celebration of track cycling, technology and teamwork. Take a trip around our mini reconstruction of the Manchester Velodrome, explore the science behind British Cycling’s recent successes and pit yourself against Olympic greats on our time trial bike. Discover the illuminating stories of the city’s cycling legends, including Britain’s first cycling superstar Reg Harris and 1928 Olympic Silver medalist Jack Sibbit.
The actual bike ridden to Gold Medal glory in the 2012 London Olympic Games, by two-time Olympic champion Victoria Pendleton CBE is also on display in this free, family friendly exhibition celebrating everything that is exceptional on two wheels
Wellcome Image Awards

Get up close to science at its rawest and most intimate in this stunning Wellcome Image Awards exhibition – featuring 18 award-winning images that celebrate the best in science imaging talent and techniques.
From an x-ray of a bat to a kidney stone, a head louse egg to a cross section of a flower bud – 18 stunning images created by medical professionals and image makers, enable the public to see minute detail of the wonders that can be found in the world both around and within us. Encased in light boxes, these illuminating images are displayed in the Museum of Science & Industry’s original First Class waiting room – the oldest surviving passenger railway station in the world.

Illusions are more than just a bit of fun. Join the University of Manchester to discover the science behind these strange images.
From funny to just plain weird, there will be depth illusions, after images, 3D magic, moving wheels, face illusions, missing shapes and more.
Help university researchers find out how susceptibility to different illusions relates to our perceptual and cognitive abilities.
This event is part of the Festival of Social Science.
