After two years of shows at Manchester and Salford’s finest fringe theatres and alternative performance spaces including Islington Mill, The King’s Arms and Three Minute Theatre, Pen:Chant – Greater Manchester’s premier cabaret night – debuts at Contact Theatre in December.

Pen:Chant brings a mix of spoken word, live music, comedy, cabaret and performance from the very best local, national and international acts.

For their last show of 2015 they’ve put together the stone-cold triple bill of Merseyside-based experimental R&B artist SUB BLUE, poetry slam champion and author Anna Freeman (whose prize-winning debut novel was recently optioned for TV Drama by the BBC), and multi award-winning laconic French comedian and sex poet Marcel Lucont!

Pen:Chant is hosted, with typical shambolic charm, panache and awkward jokes, by award-winning slam poet and performer Ben Mellor. It will also feature a high-quality open mic section, plus various other excitements and surprises.

Since it began Pen:Chant’s artistic policy has been eclectic, outward-looking and highly entertaining – past acts have included Australian comedian and storyteller Jon Bennett [Pretending Things are a Cock], New Zealand band Hannah in the Wars and English teacher, battle rapper and YouTube sensation Mark Grist [Rogue Teacher].

With one of their strongest bills yet, and a host of exciting events lined up for 2016, Pen:Chant is one to watch out for…
