The cream of Theatreland’s press turned out to the Hard Rock Cafe, Manchester to attend the official launch of brand-new show Monkee Business the Musical, which will receive its world premiere at Manchester Opera House from Thursday 29th March – Saturday 14th April.
Following on from the phenomenal success of the world premiere of Ghost the Musical, Manchester audiences will again get the chance to enjoy a brand new musical here before anywhere else in the world-(and about time too!)
It’s all part of Manchester Gets It First, Ambassador theatre Group’s commitment to making Manchester the UK’s official city for launching Theatre’s biggest and best new musicals, a scheme which has won the backing of the council.
Manchester’s Finest were amongst a select few invited to see an exclusive performance from the Monkey Business cast…
Monkee Business will pay homage to both the crazy chaos of the famous 60s TV series The Monkees and the four lads who starred in it-Manchester’s Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork and Mike Nesmith.
Playing the roles of Davy and Mike are Ben Jones and Tom Parsons. Manchester’s Finest got the chance to catch up with them at the Launch to find out a bit more.
The show’s story follows The Monkees on a madcap adventure (that even Austin Powers would be proud of), featuring all of their classic hits such as ‘Daydream Believer‘ and ‘Hey We’re The Monkees‘ – songs which helped them become one of the most successful bands of their generation.
If the show’s launch is anything to go by it looks like Producer Michael Rose (of Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang and Spamalot fame) will have yet another hit on his hands!
