David & Goliath. Darth Vader vs Luke Skywalker. Ryu & Ken vs. a Toyota Corolla. Man Utd vs. Ajax. It’s Clash of the Titans time. It’s the Europa League final and Blackdog Ballroom NWS & Dog Bowl will be hosting the hell out of it next Wednesday.
So you’ve got Man Utd, managed by Ron Atkinson and featuring their star players – Brian McClair, Paul Parker and Massimo Taibi trying to beat Ajax and their powerhouse goal scorer Ruud Gullet to claim the Europa League trophy.
The Europa League used to be called the UEFA cup but it was forced to be change it’s name after 6,000 Rangers fans descended upon Manchester in 2008 and subsequently absolutely trashed the place. I was lucky enough to walk through the city centre that night, after my bus from the Trafford Centre got stuck around the Palace Theatre. My walk to the Green Quarter through Piccadilly was a sight let me tell you.
So it’s United vs. Ajax on Wednesday and Blackdog on New Wakefield Street & Dog Bowl are showing the game. Not only that but they will be laying out plenty of drinks offers too.
Kick-off is at 7.45pm so get there early, get yourself sat down and get shouting some random slogans and clapping intermittently for 90 minutes.
