Old Blue Last Beer (OBL Beer) is an “easy drinking lager” made by those good people at VICE. They always seem to be talking about beer, reviewing beer, drinking beer and sloshing beer about at events so they decided to make their own and now is the chance to give it a try. Named after their favourite pub in Shoreditch, Old Blue Last Beer is 5 percent ABV, and the flavour is clean, gose-influenced, a little sour and a little salty.
As part of the launch here in Manchester, they’ve created #Canchester – a week of beer fuelled events in partnership with VICE, Noisey and some of Manchester’s finest institutions. Here’s what’s on…
Saturday 14th April
Free Beers Delivered to You: OBL Beer x Uber Eats
Kicking off Canchester the best possible way, OBL will be giving away 5,000 Old Blue Last Beers through the Uber Eats app. All you need to do is get your Uber Eats app up (or download if you haven’t yet you savage), and search for Old Blue Last Beer from 12pm. Old Blue Last Beer x VICE #Canchester Roadshow
Manchester Academy 3
The first of the week’s events sees VICE and OBL Beer head on over to Manchester Academy 3 for an evening of screenings and discussions with VICE host/patron Clive Martin and guests. I’m not entirely sure what will be getting screened but with VICE in charge you can be sure it will be pretty interesting, mildly funny and very entertaining. Entrance to the event is free, as will the beers so get on down early doors to avoid disappointment. Doors open at 7pm.
Tuesday 17th April
OBL Beer x VICE Canchester Pub Quiz

Tuesday will see the OBL Beer lot head on over to First Street legends Bunny Jacksons for a cracking bit of Pub Quiz action. Always a favourite, you know what to expect – choose a name (Steven Hawking’s Football Boots) and get to grips with some devilishly difficult questions while supping some sweet, sweet beer. There promises to be rounds on everything from music to memes, hosted by VICE Magazine’s editor Bruno Bayley and contributor Joe Bish. Entry is free and there will be beer promos, and of course – prizes.
Wednesday 18th April
OBL Beer x Noisey Canchester Karaoke
The Whiskey Jar
Mid-week now and the OBL Beer lot will be pulling out their big guns – karaoke. Nothing goes better with booze than making a tit of yourself in front of people by trying to hit the high note in a Bon Jovi song, or getting to the rap bit of Mysterious Girl and looking like a proper knob head. Down at The Whiskey Jar this Open Mic Karaoke will be curated by Noisey and so this might be an affair with a bit more class (and talent). There’ll of course be more beer promos, prizes and some expert DJing.

OBL Beer Canchester Launch Party
Northern Quarter
The peak of Old Blue Last Beer’s #Canchester week sees the party hit a multitude of NQ venues featuring bands, DJ’s, MC’s, free beers and plenty of beer promos knocking about. Starting off in NoHo & Soup Kitchen from 6pm, the party will then head to Night & Day from 11pm with even more DJ’s and plenty more FREE beer. Again, tickets are FREE so get involved ASAP.
