A month or so ago I was lucky enough to bag myself a ticket on The Liquorist’s new Dog Trail or Bark Crawl, as they’ve come to call it and whilst on it, it surprised me how many people didn’t know about the amount of dog friendly places there are in Manchester. So I thought I’d try and enlighten you all with an up-to-date list:
I’ll start off here as since it’s opened there’s not many weeks gone by when we haven’t been. It’s a proper dog friendly place, the staff are always pleased to see our little lad and they always make a fuss of him and us when we go in. There’s usually somewhere decent to sit and not feel like your lead will end up tripping up one of their many punters. Dog bowls are always on hand for the dogs and the food and drink are always top notch as a treat for you.

One of the finest bars in the NQ. It’s a regular place for a Friday Night Pint with the lads after a long week of work without your dog. It’s also a great place to take your best four legged mate to the boozer. They’ll look great sat on one of their high stools or tucked away in a booth too. The food is brilliant and the beers top notch.

The Bay Horse Tavern
The newly reopened pub right in the centre of the NQ is a great place for a quiet pint with a few mates, listening to some cracking tunes and perhaps playing some darts. It’s also a fantastic place to take your four-legged friend – with big comfy sofas, a crackling fire and plenty of space to have a bit of a sniff around. The smell from the rotisserie downstairs might make them (and yourself) salivate a bit too much though.

A relative newcomer to the Manchester bar scene and one of the most stunning bars in Manchester, just sitting inside is like being in the park with your little fella. The place is perfect for a few lazy hours with some top notch cocktails and a bit of food. They are always accommodating and proper happy to see our Boris and make sure he’s well-watered and looked after.

A massive favourite of mine is The Wharf. Being a Castlefield resident it’s our local and we try to get down as much as possible. I’ve never really seen the place without a dog in it. It’s great; all dogs big and small are welcomed in here with open arms and a dish of cold council pop. The food is good – hearty meals and there is an amazing selection beers, gins and whiskeys to get drunk on and embarrass your pet. It’s a proper country pub in the heart of the city.

Porter + Cole
This place is a newcomer to the NQ but one of the coolest places i have been in, i was loving the coolness of the place. i was loving it even more when one of their dogs came up to me with a waggy tail and said hello. The owners have two dogs where the place is named after – Cole and Porter who are really friendly and get on really well with our little fella whenever he pops in.

Foundation Coffee House
Right in the middle of the Northern Quarter, on Lever Street, Foundation is a top addition to the coffee places in town and has really great food on top of coffee and some great teas. I really enjoyed the atmosphere in here, it’s nice and chilled out and they are always pleased to see our little fella when he comes in. I happily spent an hour in here with Boris, who was loving it and never stopped wagging his tail every time a member of staff came to say hello.

Roc & Rye
Brand new place over at the top of King Street and somewhere that I’ve enjoyed a few beers in while with my mates after work. They have a great selection of beers and their whiskey cocktails are amazing. I was loving the decor of this place and it’s big enough so that your dog won’t get in the way or cause any problems. It’s a coffee place during the day too that’s got a great atmosphere and chilled out vibes.

A few miles out of the city centre in leafy Hale is The Garden. Not only is the food healthy, organic and very, very tasty, but you can take your little mate along with you to enjoy a healthy dollop of peanut butter. It’s a great place; the owners have dogs of their own and are always really accommodating when you’re there. It’s not the biggest venue so can be a bit tight for space, but not too small to spoil your day out.
