The Deaf Institute 10th Birthday Celebrations

It's getting close to the Deaf Institute’s 10th Birthday and so this is the perfect time to remember all of the good times we've had either on the top deck, in the basement or in the middle bar bit at the vast range of nights, events and shindigs that have taken place there over the last decade.

Who could forget that time when Juicy was on and I fell down the terrace bit at the back and smashed my face in, or the Edinburgh festival comedy show they put on last year where I watched a grown man sit in a plastic wardrobe for 35 minutes?

To celebrate their birthday, The Deaf Institute have added 10 unique events to their Summer calendar, which look to continue to make sweet memories for all that attend…

Flippin’ Sweet Napoleon Dynamite Party
Friday 20th July
Kicking off the celebrations will be the ‘Flippin’ Sweet Napoleon Dynamite Party’, a night celebrating their favourite bespectacled high school kid, Napoleon Dynamite (Heck Yes). Head to the Music Hall to try out D-Qwon’s Dance Grooves plus some special surprises and a totally sweet room transformation. Nun chuck, bow hunting & computer skills not essential but are preferred. Expect guys with great skills and totally hot online babes. With music from Jamiroquai’s classic ‘Canned Heat’ to Zapp & Roger’s ‘More Bounce To The Ounce’… see you there you fat lard!

Gypsies of Bohemia
Sunday 12th August
Gypsies of Bohemia have been on the circuit for many years with Matthew Whittaker the forefront of their musical genius. GOB pride themselves on having written at least half of their complete catalogue of original cover versions. Something of a paradox? Well that sums these guys up. They can turn the most sophisticated of settings into an all-out guitar style rave with their inventive and superbly crafted renditions of contemporary and popular songs from the modern era.

Their awesome Vegan offering now encompasses over 60% of their regular day to day menu, which they are very proud of. Deaf Institute’s Vegan Market is a special market inviting independent vegan food, lifestyle and vegan product traders to the party.

Liam Frost & The Latchkey Kids
Saturday 25th August
We are lucky enough to have a rich musical history here in Manchester and we have been proud to have played host to many of them over the years! Liam Frost & the Latchkey Kids are good friends of The Deaf Institute and should probably be playing at Gorilla in a bigger venue because they could sell way more tickets, but they have been convinced otherwise to play a special show at Deaf for their 10th, for old times’ sake.

15 Years of El Diablo’s Social Club feat. Maurice Fulton
Friday 14th September
The stars aligned for their next party, “15 Years of El Diablo’s Social Club” – if you thought Deaf was old well El Diablos Social Club is even older. They threw one of the early club nights at The Deaf Institute, even before they knew what a Flat White was (it’s a small Latte) now look at them.

Stay Fresh Fest
Saturday 29th September
Stay Fresh Fest is their two-floor band party showcasing the very best bands from the North West and beyond. This year will be the best line up yet. They convinced exciting sponsors to come on board and help promote the show so it makes them look cool and everything.

Ciarán Cullen, the Live Programming Manager for The Deaf Institute says:
“After 10 years of serving as a spring board for the best new acts, whilst bringing the most outrageously fun new parties and club nights, this year we thought we would let our hair down and celebrate a summer listings of sweet, sweet parties symbolising our 10 years of existence in Manchester. We would like to thank all of our wonderful customers that have come through our doors and spent their hard-earned cash on tickets, food and drink. Boy, we’ve seen some sights!”
