But the same can’t be said for the rest of the world. Over in New Orleans, the party lasts a week and can most appropriately be described as wet and wild. This Carnival is famous for its excessive drinking, freed breasts, strings of beads, fantastic music and of course, raucous party atmosphere.

If you want to get a little slice of this without the expensive plane ticket, then the place to be this weekend is Behind Closed Doors. Saturday will see a night of debauchery hosted by Southern Comfort. There will be Mardi Gras masks for everyone to put on, as well as bead necklaces, £5 Southern Comfort cocktails, £2 shots and fantastic music for you to dance the night away until 3 am.

Pop back by on Sunday for the full experience with a night sponsored by Buffalo Trace Whiskey. In true New Orleans style, BCD have put on a £5 cocktail special- the Sazerac- which is a native whiskey cocktail which is a lethal combination of whiskey, absinthe, Peychaud’s Bitters, and sugar. Sounds like it would be a cheap night- all you need is a couple of these bad boy and you will be high as a kite.

It is set to be a top weekend, and even if you aren’t planning to give anything up for lent- a bit blow out does sound mighty inviting.
