Tickets for the exclusive event, which celebrates the flavours of Spain and sees guests treated to six courses paired with the finest wines, were in high demand from the offset and sold out in just two weeks.

Shaw said of the event: “I still can’t believe the response we’ve had to Espana Moderna. Personally this menu has been a really fun one to create as it gives guests the chance to experience something new and exciting whilst retaining those well-loved Spanish flavours. This is certainly some of my best work so I’m looking forward to seeing the reaction to it.”

Diners disappointed to miss out on the event still have the chance to get their hands on the last remaining tickets for the MFDF Tapas Trail which features El Gato Negro. Taking place on Thursday 6th October, the trail commences with a glass of cava at the Instituto Cervantes, followed by visits to El Rincon, Lunya, La Bandera and El Gato Negro, with guests receiving a drink and signature tapa in each. The final course, created by Simon Shaw will see a pairing of fried potato skins with Sobrassada paired with Lustau Vermouth. Tickets are £65 per person and still available. What’s more, for Spanish cuisine enthusiasts looking to get hands on at home, Simon will also be conducting a live chef’s demonstration in the cookery theatre at the festival hub on Saturday 1st October showcasing his love of tapas. Join him at 2:00pm.

The Manchester Food and Drink Festival runs from 29th September to 10th October bringing with it a huge number of events across the city. This is the first time since opening that El Gato Negro has participated in the festival and sees the restaurant hosting its own highlight event and being included in the MFDF Tapas Trail.
