The original Arndale 'E' finds a home at Hatch 23 years after the IRA bomb

This week, something very exciting is launching at Hatch…

Hatch, the Oxford Road leisure district formed from decommissioned shipping containers, has a lot in store for us this festive season with the launch of Urban Narnia- but we’ve just learnt something even more exciting than that…

Electrik down in Chorlton is setting up shop at a two-tiered shipping container that they are calling Electrik Box. This multi-floored, balconied bar will be serving up beers and mulled wine this festive season, and it opened on Thursday 15th November (that was yesterday!)

Electrik Box will be decked out with arcade games, a beer vending machine and what is set to be one of the finest Juke Boxes in town.

However, the ‘E’ signature that will beam out over Oxford Road is the most special part of the décor as it was the original ‘E’ from the Arndale sign which was blown off in 1996 IRA bomb in Manchester.

Apparently, it’s been living in some guy’s basement in Didsbury for a number of years, and the guys behind Electrik jumped at the chance to use it as their signage at Hatch.

Electrik Box is set to be one of the hottest places to be this winter. You can even rent the top floor and the balcony for your Christmas do, and they are taking bookings right about…now!

If all that wasn’t exciting enough for you, I have something else for you. Hold on to your hats, but unlike all the other traders at Hatch who have a short residency of 12 weeks, I can happily announce that Electrik box will be sticking around for TWO WHOLE YEARS!!

That means you have plenty of time to get down there and enjoy a beer (or two!) on the balcony as you overlook the beautiful Hatch courtyard – but I still encourage you to get down there ASAP and check it out for yourselves.
