The Weekly Drool #006 - Pizza Doughnuts at Electrik

These beauties are messy, naughty and impossible to stop eating!

Since switching their menu to proper authentic pizzas the staff down at Electrik in Chorlton have seen my face once to many times. If I’m not nipping in there on the way home to wolf down a pizza for a fiver on a Monday, I’m filling my fat face with a Pizza Panini on a Saturday while half-cut.

Well, there’s something else to add to the list now. Pizza bloody doughnuts! Officially called Gnocco Fritto (£4) these little bundles of doughy joy are quite possibly the best side dish available anywhere in the world, never mind Manchester.

Taking their signature pizza dough, the chefs at Electrik roll them into little handy-sized pillows and fry them until slightly crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle.

They then add lashings of their deliciously tangy tomato marinara sauce and a generous swirl of home-made Pesto Mayo. The whole thing is then topped off with a sprinkling of parmesan cheese.

All you need to do then is get your hands in there and get messy. I must WARN you though – they are extremely moorish – it’s highly likely that you’ll eat a full bowl all to yourself. I did the other day and I wasn’t even sorry.

It’s also worth noting that Electrik also offer up a Vegan version of the Gnocco Fritto, which comes topped with the tomato sauce, vegan cheese and crispy onions. Lovely stuff.
