Thousands of Manchester’s cycling community will congregate in May for a major urban cycling event that is coming to the city for the first time. SPIN – The Cycling Festival, is the go-to event for both road and city cycling enthusiasts, and will take place in Manchester from 6-8 May 2016 at the Victoria Warehouse, off Chester Road in Old Trafford.
Showcasing more than one hundred of the most forward-thinking cycling brands, the show celebrates cycling, fashion, design, innovation and culture. Expect an alternative selection of some of the world’s best British and international bike brands such as Cinelli, Brompton, Boardman alongside newer independent companies such as Shand, Pure Fix & Hiplok. Heritage from East Lancashire based Carradice bags meets innovation with the latest cycling fashion from MEAME.
SPIN brings together every aspect of the cycling world, from test tracks and frame building to art installations and bike film premieres, giving visitors the chance to explore and experience cycling in one dedicated space. With DJs, live music and a café zone with street food, coffee and craft beer pop-ups, the event has an energy and atmosphere that aims to break the mould for a cycling show, creating a fun, entertaining and educational experience for all the family.
In the café zone, Cup North www.cupnorth.co.uk will be bringing a taster of their annual coffee festival with roasters, baristas, home brewers, bakers and more.
Alex Daw, Show Director for event organisers, Mercury Events, said: “The SPIN cycling Festival offers a refreshing alternative to the traditional trade and consumer show. Manchester is amongst the world leading cities for cycling, so it was an obvious choice when we wanted to bring our established show out of London. Manchester is a very cool city and SPIN juxtaposes the most progressive international traders with art installations, cyclic experiences, music and food, sharpening the focus on the urban cycling scene, road cycling and what’s new to 2016. SPIN has created an unrivalled mix of cycling culture, featuring the leading industry heavyweights, as well as lesser known independent brands and innovative start-ups.”
Chris Bird, chief executive of show sponsors, Sports Tours International, who own the Club La Santa UK, Freewheel Holidays and Wheel2Wheel Holidays brands added: “Manchester is the home of British Cycling and more and more Mancunians are getting the bike bug. It’s great to have a weekend like this to meet like-minded people face-to-face and share our love of the sport. When we heard SPIN was coming to Manchester we jumped at the chance to be involved. We look forward to the seeing the cycling community come together in May for this inaugural urban event to discuss and create new business, share ideas and bring their unique products to the public.”
Tickets are priced at £13 for an adult and £6 for a teen (12-17 years). Children under 12 are admitted for free. Adult weekend tickets are £21.
