Design Manchester 13 today announces that Peter Saville, consultant creative director to Manchester City Council, will appear as part of the Q and A session at Design Manchester 13’s core festival day on 31st October at Manchester Town Hall.

Saville joins an impressive bill that includes Mark Farrow RDI, Kate Moross, Colophon Foundry, Andrew Shoben, and Nat Hunter and Mark Shayler. The Q and A session will be hosted by the Manchester School of Art’s Dean, Professor David Crow.

Design Manchester 13, the city’s originative new week-long festival (28 Oct – 1 Nov) launched triumphantly last night at a packed out Band on the Wall with OWT Creative’s Discourse 2, featuring illustration collective Le Gun, Poke’s Alex Zamora and Intern Magazine’s Alec Dudson. The festival, curated with ambassador Malcolm Garrett RDI, working closely with lead sponsor the Manchester School of Art, part of Manchester Metropolitan University, is a series of inspirational talks, interactive workshops and evening events, on the theme of longevity.

As part of the festival, D&AD will host a free Creative Brief-In for students, recent graduates and under 24’s; an inspirational day of industry-led talks and workshops focused around the theme of Technology, UX + D with magneticNorth’s Adam Todd and Tom Bradley from the BBC. Fielden Clegg & Bradley, the architects behind the new Manchester School of Art building host The Second Industrial Revolution, which will see partner Tom Jarman in conversation with a host of creatives discussing the impact of a second industrial revolution in architecture and design.

Northern Quarter bar Kosmonaut will host a week-long exhibition entitled DM13: 10 x 10 Process – photography of ten collaborative works produced for the festival’s launch in August which celebrate Manchester’s spirit of inclusive creativity. Shot by Sebastian Matthes, this includes work by infamous mosaicist Mark Kennedy, performance poet John Cooper Clarke, Liam Hopkins (Lazerian), illustrator Daren Newman and photographer Percy Dean.

Design Manchester 13 also features an Intellectual Property workshop from Keltie LLP, a unique opportunity to tour The Sharp Project and a DM13 Social.

In celebration of the city, Design Manchester 13 and the festival’s theme of longevity, Northern Quarter based award-winning production company Daylight have produced a short entitled: ‘Long Live Manchester’.
