Manchester Pride had its launch last week in the glamorous surroundings of the Hilton’s Cloud 23 bar.

Press were invited along to enjoy a Jubilee Afternoon Tea and delicious red, white and blue mocktails whilst the Pride committee shared a few secrets of what this years event has in store.

New Chief executive John Stewart proudly announced the Parade theme for 2012 will be Queer’d Science. This has been adopted in honour of the father of computer science, mathematician, logician, wartime code breaker and victim of prejudice, Alan Turing.

Manchester’s Finest managed to grab a few words with John Stewart to find out more.

Another big announcement came from Pride Patron Claire Mooney who said that this year’s Fringe Festival will see the comeback of camp Cuban chanteuse Margarita Pracatan who brings her one woman show ‘Stranger in the Night’ to Manchester!

Manchester Pride 2012 will take place between 17th and 27th August, beginning with Pride Fringe followed by the Big Weekend, including the world famous parade, and culminating in the HIV Candlelight vigil.

Tickets for the Big Weekend, went on sale on Tuesday 01 May 2012. Day tickets are £12.50, early bird weekend tickets start at £15.
