Journey Through Spain: A series of culinary events by Manchester’s Finest

We're exploring the country's distinct regions and their local specialities over the course of five exclusive gastronomic events.

From the lush green north, home to one the world’s top foodie destinations, the Basque Country, down to the sunny south and it’s beautiful Mediterranean coastline, our guests will enjoy diverse Spanish flavours from the cosy settings of La Bandera – Manchester’s only authentic Canarian restaurant, located just off King Street.

Each dining experience includes Seven creative courses with an optional wine flight tailored to each specific region. You can get tickets to each region’s event individually below, or buy the full package for all five at a discounted rate of £25 each.

CANARIAS

As La Bandera’s influences are heavily rooted in the Canary Islands, it’s only right that the first stop on our journey be here. You might know them for their cheap holidays and raucous nightlife, but did you know that the Canary Islands are home to some of the most beautiful and culturally varied food in the whole of Spain? Expect diverse spices, rich earthy flavours from the volcanic soil and plenty of fish on this menu.

ANDALUCÍA

Sure, Andalucía might be lacking in the beautiful beaches and sunny weather, but what lacks in general ‘holiday’ appeal, it makes up for with one of the richest cultural heritages in the whole of Spain. Things are quite rustic here so expect dishes like Salmorejo Con Jamon (tomato soup with ham), Octopus Salad and Rabo De Toro (slow cooked oxtail in red wine) on this menu.  From the picturesque mountains to the rolling countryside and cave-ridden rocky coast, Andalucía is one of the most unique parts of Spain and we’ve no doubt you are going to love every taste at La Bandera.

NORDESTE

Bordered by the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees Mountains, cuisine from the North East region of Spain will bring nostalgia of fond summer holidays with dishes like Paella Valenciana, Bacalao Al Romesco, and the vanilla cream custard dessert Crema Catalana – Flavours of the true Mediterranean with a super relaxed attitude to match in this seven-course extravaganza.

CENTRAL

Spain’s central region is a land of contrasts between the old and the new – the traditional and the ultra-modern. The cosmopolitan capital of Madrid is known for its cutting edge and Avant Garde approach to Spanish cuisine meanwhile the surrounding towns are full of history and traditions where old cooking methods are kept alive. This central region of Spain is home to the finest selection of cured meats and cheeses as well as some of the most iconic dishes like the world-famous Tortilla Espanola, Churros and Bocadillo de Calamares.

NOROESTE

If anything was to dispel the myth that Spain is just a land of sunshine, beaches, paella and sangria it would be the picturesque countryside of the North West. The Basque country resides here, which is famous for its culinary culture and traditions. The wet climate makes the fishing and livestock industries one of the primary economy sources. Expect dishes like Galician Octopus, Croquetas de Chipiron (squid ink croquettes), Seabass in garlic and Spanish paprika sauce and of course the Basque-favourite Pinxtos.
