Ok, it’s the school holidays and we’re also having the summer of dreams, but if you’re keen to check out another city away from Manchester and embrace the heat, here are a few places to add to your list.
I was once stranded in Belfast for 24 hours after a wedding and fully embraced the opportunity to explore the city. The street art, buzzing coffee scene, rooftop bars and record shops filled my day, with much more on offer should I have had longer. See the Titanic Belfast, head to a museum and explore Game of Thrones locations, all only a 55-minute flight away.
If beautiful scenery is your thing, then Shannon is the one for you. Castles aplenty and for surfing fans, The Cliffs of Moher are must-sees, whilst Limerick city gives you the opportunity to get off the grid in some amazingly cosy (and proper Irish) pubs.

Portugal has been a big hit for many in the past few years with a record 20 million visitors landing there in 2017. Lisbon, with its very Instagrammable buildings, Porto with its picturesque beaches as well as the often overlooked Faro. Cobbled streets of the old city, the beaches, museums and seafood, Faro has it all for a weekend or midweek break. It’s also a great base in which to explore the rest of the Algarve.

Amsterdam is the ideal destination for a city break. The canals are easily walkable for miles, and you can get lost in the corner pubs and bars as you wander them. Culture at its finest, the renowned Van Gogh Museum also gives you the opportunity to get that Insta snap with the Amsterdam sign, whilst the Anne Frank Museum is not to be missed.
