In news that will make his loyal fans and followers clap their hands with glee, acclaimed artist Nahko of Medicine for the People has announced the much anticipated release of his first solo album, My Name Is Bear, on October 20th, 2017. On top of this he will also be performing at Manchester Academy 3 at the end of November.

Spanning his formative years as an awakening artist travelling through the wild landscapes of Alaska, Hawaii and Louisiana, My Name Is Bear is a collection of deeply personal songs that tell the tales of Nahko’s awakening as an artist and his most revealing work yet.

“I found my mother when I was 21 years old. The songs on this record are a collection of stories before that time, written between the ages of 18 to 21. They are ripe with the coming of age, first love, psychedelic revelations, youthful recklessness, and lucid dreaming.”

Whilst the big sound of Medicine For The People’s six-piece band has what has been making waves with their sell-out shows around the world, that has been put on the back-burner to make way for a lighter, more summer-soaked feeling in My Name Is Bear, and a deliberate choice that shows yet another facet of Nahko’s artistry and storytelling.

“My Name Is Bear is actually the prequel to the Medicine For The People records. It’s where this all began, before this chapter even started. I felt like I needed to retrace my steps before I could move forward”.

“The stories, however, are written from my perspective of being really young and just on the precipice of all that was yet to come. I’ve been waiting for years on these songs, for the time to be right to release them. That time is now,” shares Nahko Bear.
