So you’ve said to yourself and your S.O “Let’s be good this month babe” or “Let's have a dry January love” Ha! Okay sure... we all know how that's going to turn out.

Christmas and New Year is a crazy time of year, seeing friends, seeing family, being kind to each other and pretending to be nice to each other but what about you two? When was the last time you two did something with each other? It’s January, a New Year and a new start. Maybe you and your one have known each other a while, or perhaps you’re looking for places to take a date.

It can still be lovely this time of year sat down by a log fire, drinking or eating wrapped up warm with your significant other. But where in this glorious town are Manchester’s finest Date Night(s).

HOME Cinema
It has almost everything; cinema, bars, food, shops and surrounded by even more bars, shops and food. It’s the perfect place to chill and do something nice with someone nice. Why not go and watch a film that wouldn’t usually get a mainstream release or just watch the rain (it’s Manchester, and it’s January) while nursing a beer or a whiskey, not too many though, it’s date night.

Junkyard Golf
Who doesn’t want a hole in one? It’s date night after all. Go golfing; you don’t have to wear ridiculous trousers or a fancy hat. It’s also not a real junkyard. It’s an excellent way to spend an afternoon or evening hitting balls into holes with a stick. If like you’re a bit competitive though, go easy on him, don’t hurt his pride.

Manchester Art Gallery
They have a cafe and a shop. There is also art along the walls so check out what they’ve got going on at the time. I enjoy looking at art, but I’m sometimes too aware that other people are looking at me looking at the art thinking he has no idea what he’s looking at. Don’t be like me and worry about that, just take your time and look at something your five year old could not have done.

Grand Pacific
It’s one of the few fancy bars that’s just dark enough for me to feel like maybe I belong in such a fine establishment. You can go for drinks, drinks and food, just food or just drinks. They have brilliant cocktails, food and I just love how relaxed it is.

It’s on the first floor, so it’s nice just to sit and chill. I like feeling like I’m on a ship without then worrying about getting seasick and that weird feeling you get when you get off the boat feeling like you’re still on there. It’s grand… pacific. Plus its 50% off in January, but you need to download the app. What else screams romance like the food at discounted prices?

Hawksmoor
Throw caution to the wind and have date night on a Sunday. The Hawksmoor serves arguably the best Sunday roast in Manchester. The drink selection is stellar (ba dum cha). Look it isn’t the cheapest place to go, but I did say at the beginning to throw caution to the wind. Plus its date night, treat her or him.

Hopefully, you’re not being too hard on yourself and can afford a little January date night. You don’t have to go mental staying in; date nights are essential so get out there and publicly display that affection. Just not near me.
