Yes, it’s June. While you process that sobering thought, here’s a run-down of the best new openings this month (and some that have just opened too).

We’ve got stylish bake shops in Sale, a new Northern Quarter pub with a secret and Stockport’s much awaited beer hall. It’s going to be a good one.

Brodega – Open now

Car parks are often overlooked as a foodie destination, but Brodega are showing that to be foolish. Out of a hatch in the car park of Ardwick’s Universal Building. They specialise in chopped cheese subs, but don’t worry, this isn’t your bog standard cheese butty. A chopped cheese conventionally includes ground beef, onions, seasoning and the titular cheese – which is all chopped together on the griddle. You can also add fried chicken too, if for whatever reason that doesn’t sound enough. Order online or in person, and make sure you schedule a lie-down for afterwards.

Cure Bistro – Open now

This pretty Heaton Moor bistro blends French and Mediterranean dining, with a distinct focus on all things meat – from charcuterie to steak. There’s an interesting cocktail list and a leafy covered terrace area. Sounds like an ideal ‘wine and a catch up’ spot to us.

Circolo Popolare – Opens 6 June

Prepare yourself for maximalist Italian vibes as the famously OTT Big Mamma group arrive in Manchester with Circolo Popolare, a festival for both the senses and the tastebuds. Inspired by a Sardinian ‘festa’, the walls are crammed with flowers and traditional decor (plus the obligatory wishing well) while on the menu is superlative pasta and a lemon meringue pie as big as your head. Not an exaggeration.

Doughjobs – Open now

Another pizza contender has entered the Northern Quarter arena. Doughjobs are located in the outdoor cabin village of Mala, and they specialise in fluffy ones, with a distinct crunch. There’s also some authentic pasta dishes on the menu, as well as some delightful patterned crockery. One to check out when the Mancunian weather is at its most Tuscan.

Grind – Opens 23 June

Much-loved coffee brand Grind open their first cafe outside of the capital this month. Bringing their exclusive pours to St Michael’s in the city centre (also the new home of Circolo Popolare), expect their speciality-grade coffee, seasonal food and expertly-crafted cocktails.

Mode n Art – Open now

Right in the middle of Sale town centre you’ll find Mode n Art, a fittingly arty new pastry spot where you can pick up sweet and savoury goods and all sorts of pretty sourdough sandwiches. A great addition to their indie food scene. You need to try one of their suspended cronut creations asap.

The Morris – Open now

Downstairs, it’s a ‘pub’ with copper top tables, very decent Guinness and craft beers (and Scampi Fries), while upstairs, it’s a fun 70s/80s inspired cocktail bar, with bright orange banquets. Blinker’s Dan Berger goes a bit further here though, using centrifuges and all sorts to create cocktails inspired by Fruit Salads, Drumsticks and Black Forest Gateaux.

The Stables Tavern – Opens 6 June

St John’s has long been a prominent area in Manchester’s history, ever since the city was open fields. In more recent years, it was the home of Granada Studios and Coronation Street, but now a new venue will replace the Rovers.

The Stables Tavern is the latest addition to the buzzing St John’s neighbourhood, which already boasts the likes of Side Street Studio, Trading Route, and Fenix. The new spot takes inspiration from historic pubs of the past and promises to be ‘a place for good beer, classic cocktails and casual chats’ – all you need in a boozer, really.

The Underbank – Open now

Cementing Stockport’s complete reinvention as the coolest of cool neighbourhoods, The Underbank is a beer hall and margarita bar at the foot of, you guessed it, the Underbanks. They’ve got a could-be-more-central roof terrace and an impressive sound system for DJ sets. It’s the team behind Nook in Heaton Moor, so you know it’ll be good.

Yon Orange – Open now

New to Stockport’s epicentre of indie-ness, Yon Orange will be providing ‘speciality coffee, tea and sound’ to the Underbanks, joining the likes of Bruk, Odioba and Stanley’s among the vibrant collection of independents in this corner of town.

Zaap Thai – Opening soon

Zaap Thai’s bombastic approach to Bangkok street food is coming to Manchester. Brazzenose Street to be specific. Expect a high-energy neon-lit restaurant filled with colourful artwork. On the menu, bao, curries, dim sum and noodles.
