Manchester City Council is asking the people of Manchester to tell them what they like and don’t like about the city’s cultural direction.
The public consultation – being called ‘It All Starts With A Spark’ – is aiming to find out just what the people of Manchester want when it comes to everything from museums and galleries to festivals and other community cultural events, so it can create a plan for the next decade.
It comes in the wake of the opening of Aviva Studios, the new home of Factory International, which has launched with dance show Free Your Mind, directed by Danny Boyle and based on sci-fi classic The Matrix.
The cultural hub cost £242 million, and will play host to theatre shows, live music performances, and, of course, the Manchester International Festival.
Cllr Luthfur Rahman, Deputy Leader of Manchester City Council, said: “Manchester has a global reputation for arts and culture, bolstered in no small part by the opening on Aviva Studios recently.
“We are renowned for our nightlife, music and museums and we want to make sure that culture is an integral part of our communities over the next 10 years.
“We know Manchester people are brimming with ideas and your contributions to the It All Starts With A Spark conversation will make a real impact on what will be available to see, hear and do over the next decade.
“This conversation involves everyone – your ideas could be big, they might be small. But they will all help guide culture in our city. We look forward to hearing what you think.”
Members of the public, organisations and members of the city’s cultural sector are being invited to the It All Starts With A Spark website to have their say, and fill out the survey.
There will also be toolkits available at the website to support community groups to run their own consultation sessions.
The consultation will be open until November 30.
