Manchester indie-pop band Pale Waves will headline a new open-air live music event in Salford this September, joined by Crawlers, Nxdia, HotWax and further acts still to be announced.
Pale Waves will bring KISS ME IN MANCHESTER to the car park at Salford’s un.titled studios on Friday 11 September as part of The Block, a new series from events platform Plus Minus Equals.
Each event in the series will be developed alongside its headliner, with artists helping to curate lineups informed by their influences and the music scenes around them.
For Pale Waves’ show, the supporting bill will be made up of female and gender-diverse-fronted acts, bringing together established names and emerging artists from Manchester and beyond.
Liverpool rock band Crawlers join the lineup following the viral success of Come Over and a run of live dates with Mother Mother. Manchester-based alt-pop artist Nxdia will perform tracks including Ouch and She Likes A Boy, while South Coast trio HotWax will bring their high-energy alt-rock sound to the outdoor site.
Pale Waves formed in Manchester and are fronted by Heather Baron-Gracie, alongside Ciara Doran and Charlie Wood. The band’s music brings together indie-pop, gothic influences and emotionally direct songwriting, building an international following across four albums and extensive touring.
The show follows a run of European arena dates supporting Louis Tomlinson, alongside appearances at BludFest and further festivals. The group are also preparing to release new music later this year.
The Block will run from mid-afternoon into the evening, with food, independent brands and local collectives on site before the programme moves into live performances and DJ sets.
Organisers have also launched an open call for a Greater Manchester artist to join the lineup and perform in front of an audience of up to 3,000 people.
Pale Waves will personally select the winning act, who will receive a performance fee as well as a place on the bill. Applications opened on 14 July and are available exclusively to artists based in Greater Manchester.
Heather Baron-Gracie of Pale Waves said: “We know how tough it can be to get those early breaks as a young band, and how much they can mean. As a band proudly formed in the city we want to play our part in lending a hand to some of the amazing young talent in Manchester today.
“We also know how hard it can be financially for young artists so we’re making sure that the fee for whoever we choose means they don’t have to stress about being here, and their talent and performance is properly valued.”
