The Bridgewater Hall's flagship classical music event, the International Concert Series, now in its 27th year, continues to bring world-class orchestras, renowned choirs, and celebrated recitalists to Manchester. The upcoming 23-24 series promises to be a truly exceptional experience with leading ensembles and musicians from around the world.
The series commences with a highly anticipated return visit from Angela Hewitt, who will perform alongside the Basel Chamber Orchestra in Bach and Mozart concerti. Hewitt is just one of the many world-class pianists scheduled for this season, which includes performances by Benjamin Grosvenor, Frank Dupree, and the legendary Lang Lang.
In a show of cultural solidarity amid ongoing suffering, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine will make its Manchester debut at The Bridgewater Hall. Another first in April sees the Orchestra de l'Entente Cordiale perform, a unique initiative that brings together the finest young musicians from England and France.
This season also features Tenebrae, who will present a concert of choral farewells. The China Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, accompanied by violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen, will perform a diverse program that spans from "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" to Respighi's "Pines of Rome." Chloë Hanslip will join forces with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra for a performance of Dvořák and more.
The series welcomes back two of Manchester's finest musicians, both recipients of the Royal Philharmonic Society Awards in 2023. Manchester-based cellist Abel Selaocoe, one of the classical world's most sought-after names, will collaborate with Britten Sinfonia to perform Sir John Tavener's exquisite "The Protecting Veil." Selaocoe made his series debut in 2022 alongside the Manchester Collective, who will also return with an audacious program featuring four world premieres.
