Property conference MIPIM was once again the backdrop for Manchester to sell itself to the world, with a bold “Invest in Manchester” pavilion drawing attention on the Cannes waterfront.

Leaders from Stockport’s Mayoral Development Corporation were at the event and spoke to Miri Thomas of Roland Dransfield PR about what “Good Growth” means to them.

The borough is set for a major housing and regeneration boost after securing two awards through the Good Growth Fund, supporting more than 1,500 new homes across the borough.

Funding has been confirmed for the Fletcher Street site, which will deliver 253 new homes through a partnership between Progressive Living and Picture This.

Alongside this, the council is progressing its flagship Stockport 8 scheme in partnership with ECF. The development has outline consent for around 1,300 homes, making it Stockport’s largest residential approval.

The first phase of Stockport 8 is expected to start on site later this year, bringing forward 435 new homes in what is described as a sustainable and accessible urban neighbourhood.

Further, through the One Stockport Construction Hub, the schemes are also expected to create new pathways into the construction sector, helping more young people into work and reducing the number not in education, employment or training.
