This September, Back 2 School 2015 will take over Chorlton pub The Beagle. It’s a month long celebration of school but not as you know it. The menu will be filled with school dinner based food specials with a twist, themed cocktails and matched beers and wines.

The Beagle team has certainly done its homework and the special dishes bolstering the Back 2 School menu are Spam Fritter Tacos topped with zingy pineapple salsa (2 for £4.50/3 for £5.50), Pizza Fries with a vegetarian option available (£4) and Turkey Swizzler Burrito bulging at the seams with crunchy breaded Twizzler-inspired turkey breast, salsa roja, lime, rice and slaw served with existential crisis hot sauce on the side (£8).

There’s a real canteen classic actually for the kids this time, Kids Hotdog with the usual trimmings, available with two sides, juice and ice cream (£5.95).

For dessert, take it classic with Banoffee Pie, The Beagle’s very own special creation served with banana and coconut ice cream (£4.50). Milkshakes of the chocolate, vanilla or Oreo variety will also be available (£3/£3/£3.50).

For those in search of a proper school-style tipple, the Peanut Butter & Jelly Old Fashioned has been created just for you with peanut-infused Bulleit rye whiskey stirred to perfection with black walnut bitters and muddled with strawberry jam (£7.50)….you don’t even have to drink it behind the bike shed.

Also on the drinks front line is Bach Frizzante Moscato, a floral, gently sparking white wine (£24) and Fantini Sangiovese, a medium bodied red with notes of cherries, tobacco and berries (£28).

As one of Chorlton’s favourite craft beer hotspots, The Beagle will also be offering up a very special selection; Brouwerij’tij/Thornbridge American Wheat Ale (£5.50), a US wheat ale collaboration from Amsterdam and Bakewell, as well as Buxton Axe Edge(£5.50), Grandcru Rodenbach (£6.50) and Beavertown Smog Rocket (£5), a nod back to the smokey Porters and Stouts of the industrial revolution.
