With one of the strangest double-acts since Zig met Zag, Deaf Institute are set to welcome 6-time world snooker champion Steve Davis and acclaimed musician Kavus Torabi in December for some sweet DJing and tunage.

Both Kavus and Steve present The Interesting Alternative Show on PhoenixFM; a show championing new, experimental, avant-garde, far out, underground, electronic, pop, folk, psych, rock and classical music.

This makes an explanation of this live DJ set rather difficult to narrow down. You should expect “across the board weird and left field Prog Bangers with Quality Electronic and top end Techno slung into the mix.” Whatever that means!

As an experimental/ psychedelic musician with a long history in the field, Kavus Torabi fronts his own band, Knifeworld and plays in Gong, Guapo and was previously a member of the clad Cardiacs. Steve on the other hand has gone from being the most successful professional Snooker Player of the 1980’s, winning a total of 28 major ranking events including 6 World Championships, to an unlikely music maestro.

With far more time to indulge in his musical hobby; namely collecting left field music from around the globe, Steve’s musical tastes range from quality 70’s Prog, Canterbury and Zeuhl through to modern day Rock in Opposition and Avant-Progressive and now further into left-field electronica and IDM.
