As part of the on-going regeneration of the oft-forgotten Deansgate Mews area, a process which has witnessed the recent arrival of the Butcher’s Quarter, joining the already established 3 Hands Deli, Platzki and South Manny Flavas, this weekend sees the arrival of something really rather exciting indeed.

Offering high-quality classic cocktails with a twist, a hand-picked wine list and local, artisan charcuterie boards, The Mews is nearing completion and will be ready to fling their doors wide from this Saturday 17th July.

When we visited last week they weren’t quite fully ready, but the space was coming along very nicely indeed, featuring stunning wooden beams and high ceilings, all set over an impressive brick wall bar area and seating. It’s from here where (obviously) all of the aforementioned cocktails will emanate – but what’s this “twist” all about?!

Well, ten of your favourite classic cocktails are offered up as a ‘House Twist’ – so the Espresso Martini becomes the Black Forest Gateaux Martini (£9), the Old Fashioned becomes a Japanese Old Fashioned (£9) using Nikka blended whisky and home-made fennel syrup, and the Zombie becomes a Gin Zombie (£9.50) with gin, sloe gin and blood orange gin all in there.

On to the charcuterie now and the entire food menu has been picked, curated and designed by a man that needs no introduction at all.

He’s the city’s foremost expert when it comes to cheese and meats, as well as crackers and pickles and preserves and everything else in between. It is none other than The Crafty Cheese Man AKA Jonathan Pearcey, a man who’s forgotten more about cheese than you or I will ever know.

He’ll be bringing his extensive expertise to The Mews’ charcuterie boards, presenting the best local and regional cheeses known to man, paired alongside meats from just one farm in Devon and bread from Lovingly Artisan, as well as pate, whipped goats curd and olives. You’ll struggle to find a better charcuterie board in the city let me tell you.

Over the next few months The Mews Bar and Charcuterie will be introducing their kitchen and developing an offering of British small plates, perfect with a few glasses of wine during lunch or as a late evening dinner.

From the team behind Northern Quarter favourites Alvarium and Black Leaf, The Mews will be opening their doors to the public from 12pm this Saturday 17th July – be there or be square.
