October is nearly upon us, and the beginning of autumn comes with falling leaves, crisp walks and loads of new food and drink spots to try.
This instalment of new openings includes a new bar, seafood spot and low-key disco (all in one), a Korean fried chicken spot in the Gay Village, a rooftop Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant, and a re-opened old boozer in the heart of Chorlton. Truly, something for everyone.

Bar Shrimp – Opens 22 October
From the crew behind Higher Ground – which happens to be just next door – Bar Shrimp will be part seafood bar, part cocktail spot and then, later on, part dancefloor. Joe Otway, Daniel Craig Martin and Richard Cossins, who also run the show at Flawd on Islington Marina, love their music almost as much (just as much?) as their food, and as such, have installed a top-end sound system from Stockport’s Mastersounds in their new gaff. This place will taste as good as it sounds. Expect oysters, scallops, clams, Cornish crab, great fries and great tunes.
Berry Boys Acaí – Opens 4 October
A new contender on the acaí scene, Berry Boys bring the Amazonian superfood to Deansgate Square. Expect sleek chrome interiors and healthy bowls of the purple stuff topped which whichever combo your heart desires.
Cellar Door – Opens 15 October
Bury New Road is set to get another hospitality business this month, when Cellar Door soft launches on 15 October. So far, their social media presence is deliberately vague, but we can expect well-curated wines, painfully chic decor, and a first floor balcony. With neighbours like The Pearl and Chin Chin, this stretch of Prestwich is an emerging wine-lovers paradise.
Chotto Matte – Opens 10 October
Marking their first outing to the north of England, Chotto Matte is set to open in Gary Neville’s No.1 St. Michael’s development. They specialise in a high glam version of Nikkei cuisine, a Japanese-Peruvian fusion that includes sushi, tostadas, ceviche and more – all the good stuff, basically. The space is impressive: a 348-capacity roof terrace with panoramic views, open sushi and robata counters, two large private dining rooms and an outdoor mezcal bar. Their London spot is a favourite among the Soho set, so come and see what all the fuss is about.
Cuppa – Open soon
The evolution of Stanley Square in Sale continues, as Cuppa is set to land soon in Market Walk. Expect colourful beverages of seemingly endless flavour combinations. Pick your tea base, sweetness level and toppings such as tapioca pearls, fruit jellies or popping boba – the first of its kind in the South Manchester suburb.
Cluk – Open now
This is Korean fried chicken, but not as you know it. The Canal Street spot serves up the good stuff alongside ramen, pan-Asian snacks and loaded fries. Their unique spin on the genre is cheese though, from stacks of fried chicken covered in molten cheese, to cheese-powdered wings – a Korean speciality hard to come by in Manchester.
Gooey Circle Square – Open soon
The French Toast masters Gooey expand their brunch and dessert empire, with a new spot set to open in Circle Square. Expect more of the good stuff – from outrageous doughnuts to perfect egg butties.
Heavenly Desserts – Open 11 October
The Heavenly Desserts empire extends to Cheetham Hill. Head down to their lavish parlour for all sorts of extravagant desserts, as well as pretty brunch dishes and milkshakes. You can even jump the queue with ‘click and collect’.
Horse & Jockey – Opens 20 October
The Horse & Jockey on Chorlton Green has always been a pretty old Joseph Holt boozer, but now it’s getting the gastropub treatment, from the people behind The Black Friar in Salford. They’re carefully restoring its historic charm, as well as bringing in a seasonal menu and continuing to pour ales by Joseph Holt. We’re expecting loads of cosy corners and charm – safe to say we’re excited about this one.
Mit Alles – Open now
Operating out of the kiosk inside cool Ancoats wine bar The New Cross is Mit Alles. German for ‘with everything’, they specialise in the sort of over-the-top, colourful and fresh shawarma you get in Germany, alongside kofte, falafel and charcoal-grilled meats. This is not your typical greasy kebab spot, and you can enjoy it while in the bar, or to takeaway.
TeeClub – Opens 13 October
