To kick-start the celebration, Gorilla are launching an art exhibition curated by Caroline Dowsett, a local female artist, that will continue from March for three months in the main bar. During “SHE PWR” there will be a panel of inspirational women for an open Q&A, including Rose Marley (Sharp Project), Abigail Ward (Manchesters’ Digital Music Archive), Henrietta Rolla Smith (Afrodeutsche), Gemma Gore (NTIA, We Are Indigo PR) plus more.
Live music from female fronted bands and DJ’s, such as DJ Paulette, Rosey PM, Afrodeutsche, Tap Duo, Jessica Kemp / Kate Anita with more to be added to the bill. A female makers market will be hosted by a wide array of clothing and jewellery designers, embroidery, live screen printing, ceramics / illustrations exhibits and photography. As well as a comedy, cabaret and spoken word in collaboration with Pen:Chant. All profits of the event being donated to WAST (Women Asylum Seekers Together).
With 2018 being the Year of the Woman – commemorating 100 years since the suffragettes won their fight being granted the vote for the over 30’s, and with feminism reaching a new level of public consciousness, it makes all the more reason to resonate the movement. Concluding the event a Mural of Manchester female “Herstory” by Cat Drew will be made, with points of female history plotted onto a map of Manchester. This will enable those to be remembered, and to liberate the future females of today.

We intend to support and inspire further female collaboration, and celebrate the truly talented women of Manchester.”
