North Brewing Co. has achieved considerable success since owners John Gyngell and Christian Townsley opened one of the first craft beer bars in the UK in Leeds in 1997. Somewhere where people could try brews that you couldn’t find anywhere else, or at that time hadn’t even heard of, the legendary North Bar featured an unparalleled selection of beers and won many awards across its 25 year history.

North Brewing Co. now operate a total of seven bars across Leeds and Harrogate, as well as their very own brewery and most recently – a multi-million pound taproom in Springwell.

This growth looks set to continue over the Pennines too as they look to launch a new taproom in the recently completed Circle Square development on Oxford Road.

According to Circle Square’s literature, the new North Brewing Co. unit will be located right on the eastern corner overlooking the new Symphony Park – so we should expect not just plenty of capacity inside but also a new outdoor terrace on which to sip our pints.

Billed as “Manchester’s most intriguing new neighbourhood“, North Brewing will join the likes of Hello Oriental, Bird of Prey, Chinatown favourites Tsujiri, and soon to be open Canvas – with live music, club nights, a members’ lounge with a programme of events, a bar and restaurant, and digital platform.

Any other details are very thin on the ground at the moment, but expect a huge beer list coupled with interesting wines and spirits, an eclectic music and events programme and food from some of the city’s best street food vendors.

As with their Springwell site, it’s also expected that they’ll sell coffee, gluten-free and alcohol-free beers and ciders, takeaway beers and merchandise.

It’s been predicted that the North Brewing Co. Taproom will be opening this month – but that looks extremely unlikely at the moment. Hopefully, we’ll see movement on the unit before the Summer is out – and it’d be beneficial for all if it was in place before the students return at the end of September.
