The Refuge by Volta, the landmark bar and restaurant at Kimpton Clocktower Hotel, has announced an immersive program for its beautiful terrace on Waterhouse Way, featuring a massive collaboration with EatMCR – kicking off on Thursday 20th May.

Set alongside a drink partnership with German gin brand Monkey 47, the terrace will be transformed to feature a series of collaborative street food takeovers featuring some of EatMCR’s favourite street food traders.

A curated programme featuring street food and baked goods traders will rotate every two weeks from Thursday to Sunday, 12 noon to 10pm (hours for some traders may vary).

Birria Brothers Tacos

Among the first traders to see at The Refuge are: Birria Brothers Tacos from the team behind Koffee Pot, and Long Boi’s Bakehouse, the superb neighbourhood bakery in Levenshulme owned by baking duo Jenny Oakenfull and Sarah Bryan.

Batard Bakehouse

Pippy Eats, showcasing recipes inspired by East and Southeast Asian cookery; Things Palace, a Pan Asian inspired food curated by Lorcán Kan, of Stockport’s Where the Light Gets In, and DGHNT, a bakery launched by Sulin Baldwin offering some exceptional doughnut flavours such as Raspberry Pistachio Pavlova and Mango Lassi.

Bada Bing

Bada Bing, the home of the hoagie, an Italian-American style sandwich deli, which takes inspiration from The Sopranos, and Batard Bakehouse, ran by Lewis Loughman offering ‘well good bread + bangin’ bakes’. Plus more to be announced.

Drinks come from Monkey 47 – a batch distilled and handcrafted Schwarzwald Dry Gin that fuses British traditions, the exoticism of India, and the purity of the Black Forest with masterly craftsmanship. The menu includes five eccentric cocktails made with Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin including Monkey Sonic, Monkey Knees, Sloe Dance, Black Forest Negroni, and a classic Gin & Tonic.

DGHNT

The Refuge are also teaming up with local breweries, Manchester’s Shindigger and Salford’s Pomona Island Brewery. And to complete the summer programming, soundtracks come from Manchester’s finest DJs and selectors, including Lil Minx, Massey, Abigail Ward and Neil Diablo.

Luke Cowdrey, one of the curators of The Refuge by Volta, commented: “The collaboration with EATMCR is launching so that we can support local independent businesses in Manchester in the wonderful Waterhouse Way courtyard. We look forward to coming together and enjoying the summertime at The Refuge”.
