The Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs have announced their list for 2025, the ranking of which will be announced in a ceremony in January.

The list features a handful of North West entries, and as with last year’s rankings, Manchester’s Edinburgh Castle is the only city centre spot on the list.

The Ancoats pub dates back to 1811, but has been a local foodie favourite since it re-opened in 2019. They are a much-loved spot for their elevated pub food and often fully-booked Sunday lunches.

It landed at number 24 on the list last year. Since then, chef Gabe Lea has taken the reigns of the pub from Manchester chef of the year Shaun Moffat.

Further afield, The Pack Horse in Hayfield has made the list too. No stranger to receiving awards, this is their second year being nominated in this prestigious list.

The Pack Horse

In a column for Manchester’s Finest, Thom Hetherington wrote that the Pack Horse’s food is ‘generous and honest and respectful of traditions, and the techniques on the plate are there for the diner’s benefit rather than the kitchen’s ego’.

Meanwhile out in Lancashire, previous winner in The Parkers Arms in Newton-in-Bowland, which scooped the coveted number one slot in 2023, will also be in the running once again, as will The Three Fishes in Mitton and The White Swan at Fence.

The Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs ceremony will take place at the Plaisterers’ Hall in London on 27 January, 2025.
