The Manchester bakery favourite is taking over the former Doug’s Burgers site on Oxford Road this week...
Gooey is heading back to Circle Square in a much bigger way this week, with the bakery favourite opening its biggest site to date on Oxford Road.
Taking over the unit previously occupied by Doug’s Burgers, the new space opens on 14 May, with room for 70 covers alongside outdoor seating.
Those familiar – and who isn’t? – with Gooey’s Northern Quarter café will know what to expect; giant cookies, soft buns, stacked sandwiches and their famous cuboid slab of French toast.
The bakery has also picked up plenty of famous fans over the years too, including R&B star Lizzo, who sent the place viral after posting about the hash browns to her 30 million followers in 2023.

The new Oxford Road spot will serve up Gooey staples like their egg sandwich with kewpie mayo on toasted shokupan, hash browns (of course) and house brioche French toast with maple syrup and salted butter, alongside fresh donuts, cookies and pastries baked daily.
There’ll also be a brand new takeout sandwich menu aimed at commuters, students and workers around the Oxford Road corridor, with grab-and-go options including chicken caesar sandwiches, deli-style classics and Gooey’s egg sandos, all available as part of a new meal deal.
The Circle Square site will also introduce a new speciality drinks menu, with extra matcha and coffee creations exclusive to the venue. New additions include a French toast iced matcha and a lemon meringue pie matcha.
To celebrate opening day, Gooey will be giving away 100 free sandwiches, 100 free iced matchas and 200 cookies from midday on Thursday 14 May.

Charlotte Wild, Associate Retail Director at Bruntwood SciTech, said: “The Gooey kiosk was a huge success in Circle Square and we are pleased that the team is now moving to a bigger unit to bring even more sweet baked treats to Circle Square.
“The new cafe looks great and the increased capacity will ensure even more customers can enjoy the delicious menu. We are delighted to support the success of a local home grown brand as it continues its expansion.”
The new Gooey café will open daily from 8am until 5pm at Circle Square from Thursday 14 May.
