A true definition of the term ‘hidden gem’, I garner that many of you have never even heard of The Holcombe Tap. Unless you live down in Ramsbottom, in which case – you’re probably sat in there right now reading this.
Recently celebrating their third birthday in the village, The Holcombe Tap is everything you could ever want from a local boozer; a traditional, family-run pub but with a modern twist.
There’s live music every Sunday, a huge offering of cask and guest ales, the largest selection of gins in the area and food served daily.
Best of all though, not only is it dog friendly but they possess a jewel in the crown of any countryside pub – a proper log fire.
As well as being warm and cosy inside, there’s also extensive outside seating for the 3 days a year that it’s actually sunny in the UK.
There’s a very impressive food offering, with a selection of Small Plates served from 12pm – 9pm every day and, of course – Sunday Roasts served up every week.
The small plates feature dishes and flavours from all over the world, with everything made from scratch in-house; they even employ someone to hand-roll the spring rolls every couple of days!
You’ll find such diverse dishes as Teriyaki Chicken Skewers (£7.25), Brisket & Blue Cheese Bon Bons (£6.25), King Prawns in a garlic and chilli butter (£7.95) and Salt ‘n’ Pepper Chicken Wings (£5.95) on there.
You’ll also see more exotic offerings such as their Korean Spiced Hake with kimchi drizzle (£8.95), Spicy Corn ‘Ribs’ (£5.45) and the best sharer of all time; the Whole Baked Camembert, served with garlic and rosemary croutons (£12.95).
On a Sunday, Holcombe Tap offer up a ‘Mix N Match’ Lunch where you pay for each element of your Roast Dinner, so that you can have it exactly how you want it. Want 3x Roast Potatoes? Not a problem here, and their Cauliflower Cheese is bloody brilliant.
