From Manchester to: The Seychelles in a Pint Glass

The Seychelles are beautiful exotic islands, promising stress-free life and plenty of cocktails while you wiggle your toes in the sand.

It’s also a 10 hour flight away. Talk about a bursting a bubble, eh?!

What I’m bringing to you here is a way for you to be transported to the other side of the world, minus any airport security, minus any screaming kids on the plane and minus 10 hours of your life you’ll never get back. 20 if you count the flight back.

Let me introduce you to this….

‘Did It Matter’ at The Refuge

A deliciously refreshing cocktail with a Takamaka White Rum base. Takamaka is distilled, aged and blended in the Seychelles on the main island of Mahé. It’s crisp, sweet with a hint of lemongrass and a glug of sunshine and happiness.

The Refuge have mixed it with a good whack of ginger, a squeeze of lime juice and a good drizzle of orgeat syrup. The cocktail is then topped and shaken with pineapple and cranberry juice.

It tastes like summer in a glass with a tangy hint from lime and fiery ginger topped up with pineapple and cranberry – it’s dangerously easy to drink.

Kick up your feet in the Winter Gardens, lay back and shut your eyes and I promise you will be transported to the Seychelles. Once you finish about 10 of them, you won’t know you’re on Oxford Road anymore anyway.

If you don’t fancy a trip to the Seychelles (there’s definitely something wrong with you), there’s plenty of other options on the new menu at The Refuge. Taking the concept of their ‘world travels’ inspired dishes – the new cocktail menu takes in a variety of countries, regions and inspirations.

Why not go delve into the land of Port(-ugal) courtesy of Swift Benefit (£8.50); a mix of Warre’s Ruby Port, Cointreau, red wine syrup, lemon and a dash of soda.

If I’ve still not twisted your arm for a long haul flight holiday, how about a brief trip to Dublin courtesy of King’s Refuge (£9). Small and mighty this powerful cocktail is served over an extra large ice cube.

The Jameson whiskey mixed with King’s ginger, lemon, sugar syrup and a drizzle of ginger ale packs a punch big enough to warm your cockles.
