As per, there’s a bit of everything opening up across the city this month, from the excellent new Ancoats Deli to the hotly-anticipated return of Etana, the Japanese pop-up that’s set up shop at Three Little Words.
We’ll also see the arrival of Caravan, the first outpost of the Antipodean brunch hotspot outside London, joining the likes of Flat Iron and Blacklock in their journeys north. Welcome… make yourself at home.

In a sun trap courtyard, the Ancoats Deli is serving up great deli boards, superlative sandwiches and a range of excellent groceries to take home after stopping by to sample their martini menu – yes, they have a martini menu. Head down for a snack, a cold beer or a great glass of wine, and soak up the sun (as and when, obviously).

Caravan – open 19 August
After an interminable wait, the famous Antipodean brunch spot arrives in Manchester, specifically in the St John’s neighbourhood, later this month. Since taking the London scene by storm through the medium of eggs, smoked salmon and flat whites, we’re excited to flock to this cool spot when they open their first place outside of London right here in Manchester.
Codi’s Kitchen – open now

Cuppello’s – open now
Family-owned coffee and brunch spot Cuppello’s has opened its doors in Ancoats. Led by brother Harry, the new site is the second in Manchester and serves coffee, freshly squeezed OJ, and bakes. The family already has a spot in Lymm, where they focus on brunch dishes too, but in Ancoats you’ll find coffee that’s roasted fresh weekly by Harry’s dad.
Etana – open now
Launching inside Three Little Words, the gin distillery and bar set under an archway behind Deansgate, Etana describe themselves as a ‘contemporary Izakaya’, which is a Japanese style of bar where casual snacks are served to graze at while drinking. We’re excited to try the seared tuna, and an irresistible-looking gochujang-coated buttermilk chicken.

Moksha – open now
A stylish new Indo-Chinese spot in Ashton-under-Lyne, these guys serve a menu of really interesting fusion dishes like chicken tikka pie and Kolkata chicken kati rolls. For lovers of Indian cuisine and Chinese cuisine, and people who just can’t decide.

Outside the Box – open now
This community-focussed cafe in Bramhall caters for families, groups and solo board-gamers. They’ve got a huge selection of board games on offer, and a small but perfectly formed menu of drinks, snacks and pies. Someone pass us the Trivial Pursuit.

Bada Bing NQ – open tbc
The original hoagie maestros Bada Bing, who made their names slinging superior sarnies during lockdown from a hatch in Ancoats (and latterly in the Ancoats General Store) are back. They’ll be opening up their first stand alone gaff in the heart of the Northern Quarter, on Oldham Street. How we have missed these stacked Italian subs.
