Fine news for fans of subterranean, maritime-themed boozing – Northern Quarter bar the Hold Fast is set to re-open at the end of the month.

The nautical themed bar on Newton Street, which took inspiration from the sea-faring exploits of Jules Verne and the like, closed down back in 2019.

The scene of many a late-night’s drinking and pirate-based chat, the bar was famously in the spot of a former bowler hat factory.

It was also known for its open mic shenanigans and an excellent crop of resident DJs.

But it will be reborn on November 29, thanks to Selina, the worldwide hospitality group behind other venues like NQ1, Wilson’s Social, The Corner Boy, Wilson’s Den and Creatures Comedy Club.

The new Hold Fast will be bringing back its secret cinema room as well as some old school Sega video games to play.

There will also be craft ales and 15 house cocktails on offer once it opens its doors again.

Here be monsters, indeed.
