This January we waved goodbye to Northern Quarter Institutions Odd Bar, neighbouring The Blue Pig and Chorlton sister restaurant Oddest.But it looks like we don’t have to walk past the sad derelict buildings with a sad sense of nostalgia for much longer.
Odd is set to reopen as Folk & Soul – a vegan restaurant and live music venue with all day food from breakfast to late night snacks, with a focus on fun, playful plant-based dishes which aims not to scrimp on quality, flavour or sophistication. They are steering clear from meat substitutes, and are instead focusing on the beauty of meat/dairy free ingredients in their own right. Expect such delights as popcorn cauliflower and pulled jackfruit burritos and an all-vegan drinks list.
The venue will also host an eclectic programme of live music events with something for everyone from jazz to folk and much more.
Oddest down in Chorlton will transform into real ale Mecca The Mash Tun with the help from local brewer Scott Martin. The vibe of this will be a modern gastro-pub with a fine selection of real ale and craft beer.
The refurbishment of both venues is taking place as we speak and they are keeping the environment in mind in true super-vegan style. The team wish to drastically cut the energy usage of the Thomas Street building, and everything will be vegan-friendly from the soft-furnishings to the loo roll- I mean, we wouldn’t expect anything less.
