The chefs and bartenders have got together to carefully pair five delicious Spanish beers with selective tapas dishes off their new menu. The idea is that both the food and beer complement each other perfectly.
In addition to tickling your taste buds, Mat O’ Connell from beer and wine importers, Morgenrot will be giving you a mental workout, explaining the pairings and why they’ve been selected.
Tap & Tapas – Spanish Craft Beer & Food Pairing
Wednesday 23rd May, 7pm
5 x Beers & 5 x Tapas Dishes
Here’s a look at the menu and pairings:
ARROZ NEGRO x Cruzcampo (Lager)
Squid ink rice, calamari, aioli
You’ll enjoy a Cruzcampo Lager, sticking to its original recipe since 1904. Very easy to drink, with a thirst quenching bitterness ideal for your first taste of Spain and to start your evening off right. This will be paired with Calamari, squid Ink rice & aioli.
SECRETO IBERICO x La Pirata Suria (APA)
Seared Iberico Secreto pork, beer & honey sauce
The Iberico pig is one of the oldest heritage breeds in the world, showcased wonderfully here. La Pirata‘s American pale ale pairs fantastically with this “secret” cut of pork. Powerful citrus, with a long, fresh finish contrast wonderfully with this juicy, rich cut of pork.
ESPINICAS Y GARBANZOS x Mala Gissona Django R. Blanche (Witbier)
Chickpeas, spinach, smoked paprika
Espinicas y Garbanzos, chickpeas, spinach, smoked paprika perfectly paired with Mala Gissona’s Django R. Blanche – a fruity, spicy Witbier that is given a wonderful richness by chickpea-based stew, simple but wonderfully enjoyable pairing.
CARRILLERA DE CERDO x Palax Reserva Brune (Bock)
Slow cooked pig cheek, chickpea puree
The malt and caramel notes highlight the sweet, richness of the slow cooked cheek. Underpinned by a creamy chickpea puree, the ultimate comfort food pairing!
CHURROS x Beercat la Segadora (Farmhouse IPA)
Rum chocolate sauce
It wouldn’t be a Spanish food pairing without indulging in some churros in a rum chocolate sauce paired with Beercat’s La Segadora. A controversial pairing; deep fried dough pastry with a rich chocolate sauce is bittersweet pairing with the lemon and cinnamon notes in this big aromatic farmhouse IPA from Beercat.
