I do have a soft spot for a huge, juicy Donner kebab from the local kebab shop. I do have to be a little bit tipsy though. Actually, I need to be really, really hammered to get through that dodgy meat, soggy lettuce and seemingly endless chilli sauce.
Why do I do this to myself?!
There’s no need these days, because luckily for us, BAB in the Northern Quarter have started a delivery service with Deliveroo – bringing the poshest kebabs to the people of the city one flame-grilled flatbread at a time.
There’s now no need to settle for a soggy cheap ball of meat and bread when you can tuck into one of their extravagant posh kebabs – kebabs that are “worth sitting down for”.
There’s their classic Lamb Adana (£11.50), their own version of the lamb donner, but with freshly flame-grilled lamb, salad, house chilli and a special feta and pistachio labneh, or their Aleppo Chicken (£11.50) with chilli, hummus, peppers and the always delicious ‘thoum’ – a Middle Eastern garlic dip.
My personal favourite though is their Chip Shop Halloumi (£10) which is a vegetarian kebab version of the classic chippy tea. There’s the Halloumi which is then topped with beer batter bits, puffed potato, wasabi peas and chip shop curry sauce. Mega.
Best of all though is the fact that you can get BAB’s legendary Greek Fries (£4.50) delivered straight to your house which is a revelation of epic proportions.
