Wasabi

Serving a range of sushi which can be selected from the conveyer belt, as well as noodle and rice dishes, Wasabi makes a tasty and good value option.

We visited their outpost on Hulme Street which opened around a month ago and completes the hat trick of restaurants in this fair city. In fact this branch is so new that it isn’t even on their website yet, but trust me it’s there! The other 2 locations are Chinatown and the Printworks – but I was reliably informed that the newest one on Hulme Street is the best.

We each selected a plate of sushi to start with. I went for the Tofu Bags (tofu filled with rice) which were surprisingly tasty! We followed this with a noodle dish each. My Tokyo Roast Pork Soba Noodles were delicious and flavoursome, whilst my friends’ Seafood Soba Noodles and Pad Thai also looked good.

Fantastic value for a fantastic gem of a restaurant.

The service was perhaps a touch slow (we were in there for around 1h15 at lunchtime) and the noodle dishes came out at different times – but I’d hope that these teething problems will be sorted out once the restaurant has been opened a little longer, and if you were in a hurry, you could always just stick with the sushi dishes.

Finally, I should mention price. I went with 2 friends – we each had a sushi dish, a noodle dish and a soft drink and the bill came to just under £8 each (not including tip).

Fantastic value for a fantastic gem of a restaurant.
