Rudy’s pizza is opening its 18th venue this year in the former Dawson’s Music on Portland Street. This, the brand’s third Manchester city centre pizza spot, will be a bit different as it’s also going to house a pizza school for any budding pizzaiolos. But there’s more. Rudy’s will also be giving away 5000 pizzas to celebrate the new opening.

The new Portland Street Rudy’s is a biggie, covering 8,000sqft and spanning two floors. It will have space for 120 guests to enjoy its award-winning Neapolitan pizza. The pizza has become world famous since Rudy’s first opened in Ancoats in 2015. The fundamentals of the brand’s success lie in the traditional pizza making techniques developed in Naples, Italy.

The very first Manchester pizza school, Rudy’s Pizza Academy, will take just over half the space at Portland Street, providing “a structured training programme and open to both experienced pizza chefs, wishing to learn the Rudy’s way, and to those completely new to making pizza”. It will also serve as a training centre for all of Rudy’s own back of house staff.

Rudy’s says its “Fast-Track Pizzaiolo Programme” will include  both practical training and pizza theory, drilling down into the details of every ingredient required to make the perfect pizza. One hundred budding pizza chefs are expected to pass through the programme in this first year. We have yet to confirm whether the qualification you get from completing a course at Rudy’s will be called “ a dough-gree” but here’s hoping.

Jos Goncalves, Manager at Rudy's Portland Street, said, “We are delighted to announce that our next Rudy’s pizzeria will be located on Manchester’s bustling Portland Street. Manchester has been home to the Rudy’s famiglia since we first opened in Ancoats in 2015, and we can’t wait to open our latest pizzeria, with the addition of our first Pizza Academy in the city this spring”.

The new location at Portland Street will also be the HQ for the relaunch of everyone’s favourite lockdown treat: Rudy’s Bake at Home. Blast chilled and vacuum packed pizzas made by the Rudy’s team will be available for delivery straight to your door from spring this year.

There is no word on an opening date for the Portland Street restaurant and pizza school yet but we'll let you know when we get it. In the meantime, sign up for your free pizza below.
