Neighbourhood restaurant Trof is one of the Northern Quarter’s OG, long-standing restaurants. Located on Thomas Street, the venue offers a menu of comfort food, cocktails and cold beer, as well as an A* Sunday roast that’s cured plenty of hangovers in its time. But now, the team has announced a new venture, The Trading Route, that will open later this summer at Manchester Goods Yard.

The Trading Route is a 3,500 sq ft bar and restaurant on the ground floor of Goods Yard that’s being developed in collaboration with Trof, Wandering Palate and Manchester Union Brewery. It will include outdoor seating that overlooks Manchester’s huge arts project, Factory International and merges everything that the three venues do best, offering takeout groceries, a range of beers to sample from the brewery and a rotisserie-style menu.

Matt Nellany from Trof said: “We can’t wait to open The Trading Route at Manchester Goods Yard. With Factory International, Soho House and Fenix to name a few as neighbours, the area is set to be the new must-visit destination in Manchester.

“With the partnership we’ve formed, we’re drawing on our long established experience in the Manchester hospitality sector while adding some very exciting elements in terms of local beer and produce both for retail and dining. We can’t wait to show everyone our plans.”

Opening in late summer, The Trading Route will join a growing number of impressive new ventures already planned for Manchester Goods Yard. Sitting alongside Fenix, a modern Greek restaurant from the team behind Tattu, and Manchester’s own Soho House that’s due to open later this year, The Trading Route will provide a laidback setting for a post work pint.

The collaboration between Trof, Wandering Palate and Manchester Union Brewery has been long standing, with the teams carving quite the name out for themselves over the years. Wandering Palate, a wine and local delicacy store, is owned by Will and Emma Evans.

The Trading Route will offer a taste of what Wandering Palate is already known for – takeout groceries and drinks from local, independent suppliers. Will is also the brains behind Manchester Union Brewery, and will supply some of the brand’s homegrown ‘Mancunian’ lager to The Trading Route once open in late summer 2023.
