This month, three Greater Manchester restaurants have been added to the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland.

Pip and Winsome in the city centre, and Cantaloupe in Stockport are among the 16 new additions this month.

Manchester’s produce-led, modern British restaurant Pip, by acclaimed chef Mary-Ellen McTague, has been included.  Since opening earlier this year at Treehouse Hotel Manchester, Pip has quickly established itself as a standout among the city’s restaurants.

The restaurant celebrates the heritage of the North West, with contemporary seasonal cookery. Signature dishes include a grilled dayboat dish with braised fennel, verjuice and cockle broth, and the indulgent crab and lobster thermidor pie with lemon hollandaise and grilled gem lettuce.

They have a huge focus on minimising waste, while using the very best of the region’s produce, sourced from trusted suppliers such as Littlewoods Butchers, Organic North, Courtyard Dairy and Kindling Farm, is used to craft Pip’s menus.

The guide said “[Mary-Ellen’s] cooking shows pride in northwestern produce and packs bags of flavour into every dish, whilst maintaining a fine sense of balance”.

Over on Princess Street, Chef Patron Shaun Moffat’s new restaurant Winsome was also included in the guide.

The Modern British restaurant which opened in March of this year has quickly become popular with foodies in the city due to its simple decor, quality meat-centric menu and playful nostalgia, from cockles to cold cuts. Their cow-shaped gravy boats have become a bit of a cult phenomenon in themselves.
