Cycling superstar Dame Laura Kenny is set to illuminate Altrincham as she turns on the town’s Christmas lights. With an innovative focus on sustainability and sport, the Olympic champion Dame Laura Kenny (Britain’s most successful female Olympian) will take to the stage on Regent Road to switch on the lights and officially kick off Christmas in Altrincham.
Hosted by Happy Radio’s Darren Proctor and Chelsea Norris, and organised by Altrincham BID who produce Visit Altrincham, the event promises a festive afternoon packed with seasonal entertainment and community choirs, all while embracing an eco-conscious approach.
Altrincham BID has invited local gyms and fitness studios, as well as players from Altrincham Football Club and Manchester Storm to join in by powering an element of the stage lighting through pedal power. Each will take a 20-minute slot to generate power while promoting fitness and sustainability. The theme of this year’s switch on reflects Altrincham’s commitment to active travel and green initiatives. Visitors can expect performances from Little Belters, The Music Place Choir, Amanda Jane Heywood, Imogen-Paige and the debut of the Randall’s Jewellers Band featuring Cllr Michael Welton, Martin Duff and Sonia Stanley.
